Visual and Performing Arts Mission and Vision

Instruction in the arts enriches the aesthetic perception of one’s environment while encouraging creative, intellectual and social growth which, in turn, prepares and provides students with the skills necessary for success in the 21st century.

An education in the arts fosters a population who will:

• Look upon visual and performing arts as a means of self-expression.
• Articulate and communicate thoughts and ideas effectively using verbal and nonverbal skills in a variety of forms and contexts.
• Gain a greater appreciation and understanding of global, environmental and social issues within both current and historic contexts.
• Acknowledge traditional media while recognizing evolving technological advances and practices within the arts.
• Assume shared responsibility for collaborative work and value individual contributions made by team members.
• Solve problems in both conventional and innovative ways.
• Apply knowledge of visual and performing arts literacy in the pursuit of vocations and avocations in the arts.
• Appreciate the ways in which the arts nourish both the intellect and the soul.
